It seems like most celebrities are on big pharma's latest injectable 'wonder drug'. Ozempic and other GLP-1 agonists are a class of medications used to treat type 2 diabetes and obesity. They work by mimicking the action of the hormone glucagon-like peptide 1, which helps to reduce blood sugar & appetite, primarily by slowing down digestion and triggering insulin release from the pancreas. While this drug may work for many it's not without significant cost and a pretty lengthly side effect profile. It also seems to have around a 50/50 success rate from what I'm seeing clinically in my patients,…

We inherited a lovely little rhubarb patch with our homestead; along with a trout-stocked pond, wild ramps, a tiny chanterelle patch and tons and tons of wild raspberries! While we've definitely got our hands full with the new baby (2.5 weeks) I couldn't let our rhubarb yield go to waste & whipped up this quick crumble with pantry ingredients and a random grapefruit from our fruit bowl. Luckily the grapefruit compliments the fresh rhubarb and nutty brown butter beautifully, resulting in this extra special treat for tired mama & papa and a new recipe for you all. Printrhubarb & grapefruit…

Snacking cakes; an unfussy treat that comes together quickly, with ingredients found in most pantries. They are not reserved birthdays or special occasions, they are meant to be eaten whenever the craving for cake lands, like on a Tuesday afternoon. This version also happens to be pretty healthy thanks to high fibre gluten-free flour and an absence of refined sugars, so it can totally pass for breakfast. The peaches are glorious this time of year and work beautifully in this recipe, but can be exchanged for any seasonal fruit; PrintPeach Snacking Cake This gluten-free, dairy-free peach cake is perfect for…

Finally, the 'better late than never' pumpkin coffee cake recipe I promised you guys weeks ago (my apologies, it's busy season at the clinic & life is very full). The good news; with halloween & thanksgiving already come and gone you'll now probably be able to pick up a few cans of organic pumpkin puree on sale at your local health food store, so you're welcome for that. This healthy pumpkin coffee cake is perfectly moist thanks to coconut yogurt & organic pumpkin puree. It also happens to be gluten free and naturally sweetened with maple syrup, making it the…

Seed cycling is so hot right now! I love when traditional food-based hormone balancing practices start trending in the wellness space. Your girl here has been seed cycling for years, but if you're new to the seed game you may be surprised to learn that I often prescribe seeds to female patients with heavy cycles, period pain and all kinds of less than ideal hormonal symptoms. Seed rotation, or seed cycling is a cheap and easy way to naturally boost estrogen levels when they should be highest in the first part of the female reproductive cycle (follicular phase) and progesterone…

If you guys haven't met freezer fudge yet I suggest that you get acquainted asap. Freezer fudge has been at the top of my list of favourite warm-weather treats a few years now since it's easy to make, requires no baking (hallelujah), and helps cool me down on those extra hot global warming-induced scorchers. They also happen to be low in sugar, and high in healthy fats: the 80's are over my friends, low-fat dieting is out and fat-forward feasting is in! Fat from healthy sources like coconut & avocado is wonderfully satiating, supports a healthy cardiovascular system, reduces your…

These vegan coconut macaroons were a long time in the making; many bags of shredded coconut were lost to the process of developing an edible (dare I even say, delicious) macaroon recipe free of egg whites and sugar. After months of experiments I've finally nailed the perfect ratios and replacements - just in time for passover. Coconut macaroons are the ideal dessert during the holiday as they do not contain any flour or other 'forbidden' Passover foods and Grandma usually brings out a can of Manischewitz macaroon's at the end of the Passover seder to accompany her homemade apple sauce…

Female arousal is undoubtedly complicated. Information gathered from hundreds of observational studies on female sexuality suggests that, for women, psychological factors such as relationship satisfaction, mood, and emotional stress may play a more important role in feelings of sexual desire than physiological factors. While I can't help you with the resentment you may feel towards an unhelpful sexual partner (there are lots of wonderful sex therapists & couples counsellors available for support in that area) we can make sure that physical factors related to arousal, like hormones and blood flow, are optimized in order to give you the best shot at…

When bakers / bloggers claim to have created a chocolate-based recipe that's 'better than sex' I automatically wonder if they're entirely satisfied in the bedroom. While chocolate may be better than lacklustre love making there is absolutely nothing better than great sex, period. Sex is good for your health, helps to balance your hormones and can even help you live longer (having 200+ orgasms yearly up-regulates an anti-aging process called autophagy, yes please!). Fortunately, sex and chocolate don't have to be mutually exclusive; to celebrate the season of love I've created the world's sexiest brownie. This decadent dessert contains 3…
